The MaskA Poem by Night BaneAbout sadness and feeling ignoredWhat you see is an illusion What you hear is a lie What they tell you is a mirage Something they passed by.
No one looks closer They're content with the mirror They ignore the truth To make themselves feel better.
They like the cardboard cut-out They like the way she smiles They think she's beautiful With the eyes of a child.
They don't want to see the hurt They refuse to see the tears They don't like the red cheeks Or the eyes filled with fears.
No one looks further Past the mask They don't see the child Hiding behind the glass.
That little girl is scared That little girl cries She can't give her heart out She won't have it hurt one last time. © 2015 Night BaneAuthor's Note
