The Mask

The Mask

A Poem by Night Bane
"

About sadness and feeling ignored

"

What you see is an illusion

What you hear is a lie

What they tell you is a mirage

Something they passed by.

No one looks closer

They're content with the mirror

They ignore the truth

To make themselves feel better.

They like the cardboard cut-out

They like the way she smiles

They think she's beautiful

With the eyes of a child.

They don't want to see the hurt

They refuse to see the tears

They don't like the red cheeks

Or the eyes filled with fears.

No one looks further

Past the mask

They don't see the child

Hiding behind the glass.

That little girl is scared

That little girl cries

She can't give her heart out

She won't have it hurt one last time.

I am not sure if it was intentional but the 2nd group of stanzas and the last group of stanzas don't fit your rhyme scheme.I believe if those group of stanzas I mentioned were fixed you would have a better poem. You have good bones to build upon.
