A Poem by Nicolette Rose

"

by the trees, by the light
i hear a faint cry
a life gives up the fight
a million bleeding angels forget their plight
“now, my child, don’t you weep..
i’m here to protect your hands and feet
alive and well and that’s all that matters.”
is it all?
nature calls to arms and you break free
resist the lashes from your retreat
treason, treason - it’s no joke
you resist gods and the holy pope
you sit and think, “is it them or me?
am i the one with ‘petty vagrancy’?
doomed to suffer whilst i gain bodhi?”
i plea, i break free
it’s them, it’s not me
i know truth like the gods of the trees
why keep man from the dream?

a girl walks into a shop and asks for a pair of golden rings
“one for them and one for me”
she says she’s sorry but she forgot her money
they send her away
now, sophia..
