After Class

Jabir wonders aloud, "It's a little strange how the Headmaster is inviting everyone who attends this school to his son's party; I mean, most people don't even know him."
"Maybe he thinks he can make friends for his son?" Yuri suggests, "And I can be friends with anyone who knows how to throw a good party; it better be fun." She lightly grasps Jabir's left elbow, as if using him to guide her, (although I don't see why she would need guiding).
"He shouldn't try to force friends on his son," I interject, "he should let him make his own decisions."
"Wise words, Caroline-san." Jabir smiles sideways at me, and I grin back. Seeming to have seen this exchange, Yuri taps Jabir on the arm again, "Where do you have lunch, Jabir?" she sweetly puckers her rosy lips, leaving a bitter taste in my mouth, "I heard the courtyard is the best spot; so many cherry blossom trees--"
"we should eat in the cafeteria," I finish, not wanting this girl to triumph over me, no matter how selfish, "the faculty might want to keep tabs on us after what happened to Leiko."
Jabir looks at me pleadingly, "Ah, come on Caroline-san, a lot of people eat outside, and I don't think the adults would mind."
"Yes, Caroline-san, it's not like we're criminals." she giggles.
I let out a long sigh, "fine, lead the way Jabir."
