RecoveringA Poem by Nicole Renee
Scars cover my skin,
Leaving the horrible memories Way behind in the back of my mind.
I can still feel the caress of the needle
Touching my me; touching my veins,
Energy flowing through as though
It was a new life, everything around
Turning colors, while the unusual
Sprung into life. I loved that feeling.
It made me feel as though I could Escape reality and forget the life that
I lead before. But I also lost most
Of my friends and their trust,
Also losing the man that I loved
And even my family to lean on.
So I broke the cycle and
Set the needle down as well.
So when I look at you,
My scars will say it all:
I’m a recovering drug addict.
