Until the Lights Come Again

Until the Lights Come Again

A Poem by Nicole Laszlo

Lights stretch along these tired streets

Illuminating some of its lost buildings

But these streets are busy

And the lights are scattered to and fro-

People roam familiar paths

The feeling different to each one

But to the lights-

And only to the lights-

It was all the same;

People step from the shadows

And the find themselves followed-

Tied to a dark figure

While in the light it's seen

There's no way to be rid of this follower

Sometimes it stands taller

Others shorter

But all the same it's always there

So the people keep on walking

And as they step into the shadows once more

Their follower disappears; hiding in the darkness

Until the lights come again
