Autumn Hearts

Autumn Hearts

A Poem by Nicole Jane Marie

The leaves serenade you as you walk along,

Hands clenched, bodies pressed together for warmth.

Everything is still.

You think about everything,

You think about nothing at all.

It is perfect.

Her flustered cheeks are as red as the foliage.

You can’t tell whether the chills are from the October breeze,

Or from the happiness you are feeling at this very moment.

It is all perfect.

You fight the cold just to take in a few more moments of beauty,

You close your eyes,

The air tastes bitter but it feels so sweet.

Autumn is complex and confusing, yet simple and comfortable.

Just like love,

It is all truly perfect.
