Paradoxical Concern

Paradoxical Concern

A Poem by nicolecartwright

Oh God don’t let me be like her.
Oh God does she want to live?
Oh God build a wall between us,
It’s only take, never give.

Her voice makes my skin crawl,
Her presence makes me weak.
Her silhouette makes my focus fade,
And lose way from what I seek.

She is too badly heartbroken,
How many times has she been burned?
How much should I try to help,
Before I stop being concerned?

But if she will not help herself,
Where do I even start?
And if she will not help herself,
She will surely break my heart.
