I MoveA Poem by nicolecartwrightBecause stillness is the enemy.I move. I move so that I won't die. So that air pushes into my lungs. So I don't suffocate in the stillness. I move forward. I move forward so that my past won't ruin my future, Before I even get there. I move fast. I move fast to outrun myself. Even though I am myself. I need to move backwards. I need to move backwards because I'm getting too full. I need to expel the air, the past. Or else I will be too heavy. Forced to be still. Then I will suffocate anyway. I exhale - My past becomes an old friend I left behind. And suddenly I don't move. I fly. © 2014 nicolecartwright |
