Chapter Six: Discussion

 

That night, when I got home from dance, the first thing I did was call Aly.

     “Hello?” Aly’s voice chirped from the other end.

     “Hey Al, what’s up?” I asked, as I trotted around my room, putting away my dance shoes and changing out of my skirt and into my PJ pants.

     “Oh hey Nicole. Nothing really, you?” And then it sunk in what day it was today, “OH, how did the birthday thing go?”

     “Fine, but Aly it was like weird.” And I explained in complete detail absolutely everything that happened.

     “And when he hugged me it was like…I don’t know I liked it.” I mumbled.

     “You so still like him.” She mocked me.

     “WHAT?” I yelled, then lowered my voice, “That’s so not true. How could you even say that? Besides he’s been dating Laura for like a year.”

     “Yea so? That doesn’t mean you can’t have feelings for him.”

     “It means I shouldn’t.” I countered.

     “But it doesn’t mean you don’t.” She pointed out.

     “Oh come on. You know that before he apologized I didn’t even think about him for an entire year. If I could live without him that long, how could I like him now?”

     “But you did think about him.” She replied. “You told me you had random dreams sometimes, and that you were freaked out when he apologized, because the night before you had a dream of him doing that!”

     “But that’s involuntary!” I shrieked.

     “It’s in your sub conscious!”

     “Fine!” I growled. “Whatever.”

     There was silence for a little while, but not long, we couldn’t stay mad at each other, not even for a few seconds.

     “I don’t believe it either,” Aly whispered, “I mean, just about a month ago we were discussing how to make him believe you were over him, and now you’re not even sure.”

     “I am sure.” But even as I said it, I knew it was a semi-lie. “What am I going to do?” My voice was low.

     “I don’t know…” Aly’s breathy voice reached my ear, “I don’t know…”
