The Unthinkable - A Poem

The Unthinkable - A Poem

A Chapter by N. C. Matthews
"

I wrote this poem at the same time I wrote "You Did Not Come." Age: about 17 or 18

"

Time after time I counted my blessings,

And you were always numbers one, two and three.

Time after time I thought of how wonder you are,

And just how wonderful you are to me.

Time after time I thought of how much I love you,

And just how great you make me feel.

And so many times I wondered,

Could your love  truly be real?

And so many times I pondered,

How could I have lost you at all?

And time and again I asked,

Why do you let my tears fall?

Did you ever love me?

Did you ever care?

Or have I truly lost you,

To one you think more fair?

Will you ever love me?

Or is it all a waste of time?

Oh, will I ever have you back?

Or have I truly lost what was once mine?
