Things that I have seen

Things that I have seen

A Poem by Nico
"

a young adult...mature beyond his age reflecting on the state we are in!!

"

I have seen people
that got old lonely
I have seen selling
in front of schools
I have seen life,
a life that starts
thrown in a sack as if
it were household junk.

I have seen the air that
became red-hot of lead,
and thirsty land in too
many parts of the world.
I'm not very old
I haven't existed for all that long,
but I swear that I've
seen those things already.

I just ask people
to be more real
people from everywhere
of every age,
ideology or nationality
I just ask something to
be done collectively so
that the things I've
seen could stop much sooner.

I have seen the sky
that became heavy
covered by a shadow
of a huge cloud,
I have seen the infected water
than nobody can drink
I wish I'd never seen
all those things.

I just hope that
decision makers
those that command
know what they are doing,
and if they have the courage
to at least respond to us,
I just hope that
future youth will
never see, not even
on television, the
things I have painfully seen.

I'm wondering what to do
to strive, certainly we must battle
our demons and  try to talk openly
and honestly........
to put an end to all this horror,
I'm wondering whether
love by itself could suffice.....
if only we could all love one another,
it would be a start, a hopeful sign of progress.....
to try and wash away from my mind, my eyes,
the things that I have seen......

I like the message behind the poetry as well and it was brilliantly done.

Perfect ending to the poem as well.

Very powerful words! Well done!

This is beautifully written. Sometimes it takes advice from the outside looking in to make a difference- if only this message could get through some thick-headed people in the world. There is truthfulness behind your writing. Its sad to think this is where we are headed. Your piece did its job very well- it got people thinking and talking. Good work.

I think this is where faith should be placed. In loving one another .... although seems an impossible feat, which, hence the problem... lack of faith. We cannot put faith in one man, but in every man we must look for the answer. Not in the minds of the politicians but in the heart of humanity as a whole.

Such an overwhelming task to think about. So rather than take on the world, I think Gandhi said it best.... "you must be the change you wish to see in the world". That's as good as it gets until we all "get it".

Excellent piece!

Really good.
and though i support Obama also, You can never put too much faith into one person. And I think at least a little love exists everywhere, but its tainted by jealousy and revenge. I dont know if our world will ever be at peace, but I atleast want the US to be peaceful.

Much needed message. The world is in need of changing our ways. Not sure Obama can do it. He is only a man. We need a higher power for the kind of change this world needs. Change can only come if we all do it together, but if we sat back and do nothing, it won't get any better. Love one another........surely you say it can't be that simple or can it?

Very nicely done, I havent really been paying very much attention to the election as I should but feel like Obama has some potential for this country and get us out of the mess we are in today. I enjoyed this piece, great write.

Powerfully and perfectly said! I really enjoy the depth of this. Gotta love political poems! They spawn controversy that world so desperately asks for. ;) Thanks for sharing this! I wish people would be more mature adults like you and me. lol

it is frightening what young people have to live with these days...racial tension , religious tension, children killing each other in what is supposed to be a safe place (schools) , predators reaching through the 'net disguised as a friend, drugs available on every corner, I could go on and on...YES change is needed very badly. But it needs to start with SELF. Our attitudes ,our thinking...hardened hearts. you poem is a wonderful way to bring awareness and make the people who hold the future in our hands think about our choices and who they will affect.

I've seen the same things as you have. I've also seen a lot of people turn into hermits instead collaborating together and take action. It seems to me as if the human mind adjusts itself to intolerable situations and starts to accept as normal and mistake all the events that you describe as facts that cannot be changed.
May many readers stop here for a while and think!
