Colors of ParadiseA Poem by Nick LeeI wrote this poem a day after 9/11. In the beginning of the poem there are so many beautiful things to love, but then the ugliness of war comes in to change our surroundings. The Colors of Paradise Picture the yellow, the blue, and the green I lay in the grass so soft and serene I slip off my shoes Put my feet in the pond My body stays on earth As my mind goes beyond Now picture the blackness, the red, and the white They represent fear And they fly like a kite The black is my loneliness The red is my hate The white’s my confusion between these two states I look to the heavens And long for the pink There’s nothing but grayness which purple proudly links The chain that these colors so strongly have made Lift me from the ground Causing everything to fade To the right you would see the world shinning bright There’s a golden ring so big it could pierce the night To the left you would see the world yet again There’s so much dark red no one knows where to begin No longer the aquamarines that you knew No longer the oranges Or soft violet hues Even the silver that shined from the stars Has been dipped in maroon And sent to a far There’s too much black soot from the guns that have fired The brown of fallen trees is a shade so expired Green still remains but it’s moving about It’s found on the helmets of enemy sniper scouts The sun in the sky doesn’t have the same spark Children first drew it In cheddar not starch What has happened to the world that God has painted? What has happened to the world has made me so frustrated I let the chain go To stop all the madness I want to let go Of the pain and the sadness I want to return To the yellow, blue, and green To lay on the grass So soft and serene Enjoy this picture Cherish it for today For the Colors of Paradise Will be taken away © 2022 Nick LeeFeatured Review
