Chapter 4A Chapter by NickelassAbout 30 minutes later we found a Canadian Tire, the place was pretty much empty, a lot of shelves had been tipped; probably in the initial breakout and it looked like there was just garbage on the ground, but we searched anyways. There were no lights on, and the only light was the sun coming in from the windows, it was still very hard to see. Not that I hadn’t expected this, seeing as we stayed inside much longer than almost everyone else. There were about 4 or 5 infected left in the store; most likely trapped because the power went out a week ago and the doors weren’t working (we actually had to break in the store), so we stayed together and picked them off silently before they knew we were there. Kelly had traded her bat for a smaller and lighter tomahawk, because the bat took too much power to actually kill an infected, and the tomahawk was made for killing. I had also found a flashlight and some work boots, which I traded for my regular running shoes, and I also found a hunting knife with a sheaf that I attached to my left boot. David had found a hunting bow, with a quiver and 11 arrows, so I threw that on my back and we left. I decided that since I wasn’t such a great shot, I was going to save the arrows for attacking from a distance, when we have no other choice. Surprisingly, we had walked for another two hours without seeing anything, not even an infected. By this time, Kelly was starting to get pale, and I was starting to get worried, I didn’t know what to do. When we had gotten to the out-skirts of town we started heading North, and there seemed to be more infected out of the city. A lot of them didn’t even notice us, but a lot of them did notice us too. Luckily though, we only fought one or two in one period of time, not that it’s a good thing, but it was better than the other options we had. As the sun started to set, we had noticed a lone shack in the distance; we had decided that would be the safest place to stay for the night, because the infected had stopped following us, and there weren’t any in sight. When we got to the shack, I told Kelly and David to wait outside while I check the shack. So I turned on my flashlight, and gripped my hatchet. I slowly opened the door, and turned my head and whispered to them. “Stay on your guard and watch out for each other” As I walked in, I closed the door behind me, there was only one window in the small two roomed shack, which was the only other exit. There was a dead body lying on the ground, as I turned to tell Kelly and David that it was safe, I got tackled to the ground, dropping my hatchet just out of reach, and my flashlight rolled away until it hit the wall and the light was pointed directly at the rotting man’s flesh. As I struggled to keep his mouth out of reach with my right hand, I reach down to my left boot; I grabbed my knife, and stabbed him in the temple. The light showed his expression change from a look of madness, to a blank canvas. I pushed him off of me, got my knife back and dragged to body outside of the shack. © 2012 Nickelass |
