Carniferous

Carniferous

A Poem by Nick Patrick

Let not indifference become my poor state

To have sun shine through these cold dark trees

Would be a rare occurrence, almost a tease

It wavers so close, almost, and I wait

No, it has not occurred in a recent date

To skulk around stricken in a mental freeze

Hoping just to keep some sanity at ease

Leaves tired the palms of this earthy weight

And peals back the flesh of what is self

Until nothing is left but an empty vessel

Logic does its job, a genocide of reason

Locking away faith to the highest shelf

A difference is needed for the mind to wrestle

But the feeling is lost in the wintery season
