![]() The Tour 2 ( The road to the West Coast)A Story by Nick.B![]() Another story about Jack's life...just a simple man (despite his character and fame)trying to live day by day![]()
After the concert in Hong Kong, the band packed their bags and were headed to the airport, Jack was sitting in the van quietly with his headphones on, listening to classic rock music. Steve was sitting next to Jack, with a smile on his face he looked at Jack and praised him.
"Quite a show, you managed to pull Jack, did you improvise on that solo?" Jack took his headphones off, his mind was in a totally different world, through the waves of music he was thinking about the talk he had with Amanda. He couldn't tell if he had the strength to stop going down that same road that was kept leading him to trouble. "Oh, sorry Steve. I was thinking elsewhere. You were saying?" "Are you okay Jack? You seem a little pale." Steve always was worried about his bandmates, he wanted the band to be in their best shape. Jack smiled for a second and then he sighed. He felt that his problems needed to be sorted out by himself only. "Yeah, I'm okay, probably because of the air in here." Steve felt that something was wrong. He knew that Jack had some problems back home. "If there's any problem at all, you will tell us, I mean we are your friends, Jack, we've known each other for such a long time and..." he sighed for a moment "I know it's hard, that you and Diane broke up again." "Thank you Steve, but I'm fine, really!" Jack wasn't fine, everyone felt that but they didn't knew what to do. Diane was Jack's first and last love, their relationship was powerful, and after their daughter came it seems that nothing can brake this family apart, but somewhere along the way Jack and Diane weren't the same. The band reached the airport, John was sad that this was a short visit, he felt that this town had something apart from the others, his band mates often wondered about this excitement of his, maybe because he never left the country, they would often think. In the airplane Jack chose the last seat in the back, where he could be lonely, the same as always. He saw Amanda talking to another flight attended. His mind was on the words that Amanda inserted the night when they had their little talk. As the plane successfully took off, Amanda saw that Jack was not his normal self, and wanted to give him his glass of whiskey. She approached the back of the plane where Jack was. "Well...you're quiet. Not a single heartbroken flight attendant, you're making real progress Jack, here's a gift", she smiled and gave a glass of whiskey to Jack. Jack smiled back but didn't knew why she did this. He never ordered anything to drink. Was this a way of feeling sorry towards Jack, he wondered. "Thank you, Amanda, and I'm sorry again for that little incident, thank you for the drink. I didn't want to be a pain in the a*s again. But, Hey! A drink it's a drink." "It seems you're making improvements all ready. Is that really you?", Amanda asked with curiosity she thought that Jack was hiding behind a mask. Jack raised his glass, in a sign as a big thank you, and drank it. "Yeah, it's still me, the same old prick b*****d." After a few hours spent in the plane Jack couldn't sleep at all, all of his band mates where either listening to music or sleeping. Jack tried to rest his eyes, but he was still thinking about Diane, and Christie. He could not think of a life without his special girls, as he always called them. During the flight he looked through the window, or was listening to music, he hadn't slept for fifteen hours. While waiting for their bags, Steve saw Jack's tired, red eyes. "Couldn't sleep?" Jack nodded his head. 'Damn Jack. You need some rest." Jack started to laugh for a few seconds and with his red eyes looked towards Steve. "You think that I didn't know that? Maybe after I will see my daughter, then I can get some sleep." After Jack's answer he walked away from Steve, he didn't want to have an argument with his long time buddy. Jack finally got his luggage and was headed straight for the exit. While he was going through the door that lead to the arrivals section, he saw a tall brunette, with a pair of sunglasses on. He thought that he was dreaming, the woman was Diane. Jack couldn't believe that Diane would wait for him. With a big smile on his face he ran towards Diane and hugged her. Diane felt in a state a shock, she was looking elsewhere while Jack grabbed her. "Ohh...How much I've missed you. How did you know that I was coming today. " Jack still could not believe that his partner was here, waiting for him. Diane slowly pushed Jack away. "I'm waiting for Phil to come from a trip. He should be here any minute." In a fraction of seconds Jack's world collapsed again. He felt anger, he really wanted to meet the one who stole his family. "So that's his name, Phil. Anyway hows Christie doing? Misses her old man? I brought her some cool stuff from Hong Kong." At least he had his daughter which he cared for her. "Yes she's fine. By the way, here's the key to the house. Me and Christie are staying at Phil's now. You can move back if you want." It seemed that things went from bad to worse, in that moment Jack felt anger and jealousy he was in a state of shock. Jack slowly grabbed Diane's hand, and looked straight into her eyes. "What about us Diane? What about Christie? Taking her out of her house where she grew up, into a stranger's house." Diane tried to pull off her hands, but Jack would not let go. "Come on Jack, don't be like that, Christie's fine. Phil is a good man." Jack didn't knew how to act, his soul was empty, his family was gone into another man's house. "Hey baby. I've missed you." Jack turned around and there was a bald tall man, with a mark on his left cheek, his big green eyes looked straight to Diane. Jacked backed off. The man passionately kissed Diane. Jack felt disgusted by that image and added. "This is your Phil? Looks like Lex Lutor." "You must be the famous Jack. Pleased to meet you, I'm Phil." The man tried to salute Jack, but he was silent, he looked at him with so much anger, he felt to punch him right in the nose. "Diane, look at me, this is my replacement? This f*****g big ape." He then looked at Phil "no offense buddy, but you look like my grandpa." Diane grabbed Phil's hand and headed to the parking lot where their car was. Jack wanted to know everything about them, so he followed them. "Hey. Would you take me to see Christie? I miss her." Jack was waiting for approval from Diane and Phil. "Sure, I don't see any problem in that." Phil answered, but Diane kicked his knee. "Come on Jack, don't be that man. Once you will know where we live you will never leave us alone. Look Christie will come and stay whenever she wants, I will not intervene. " Diane sounded more cold than Jack was used to. "That man? Who that man?", and Jack was pointing towards Phil. "I'm not that man. Look at him! He's bald." "As I said Jack! Don't be that man." Diane responded once again with cold look. Jack looked at Phil and said. "Oooh, that man? I don't think so, that man is too old Diane." and was pointing at Phil once again. "God, it's like dealing with an eight year old. Look Jack, you can come with us to see Christie okay." , Phil said, he had no problem with Jack, but he felt that Jack's attitude was too much. "Now you know what I've been dealing with all these years." Diane wasn't excited to have Jack visiting Phil's home. "At least in the boudoir weren't any problems." Jack added. He tried to annoy the new couple he didn't knew how to act in this situation. They hopped in the car. Jack was in the back. "Home, Alfred!", said Jack with very much sarcasm in his voice. Diane and Phil started to ignore Jack's references, he lighted a cigar in the car, Phil looked through his rear view mirror. "Jack, could you please throw the cigar out, thank you." Phil seemed to have lost his patience, his hands started to tremble. Jack had a devil smile, that's what he wanted to annoy Phil until he explodes . "I could, but maybe I don't want to." Jack started to really make Phil feel sorry for bringing him in the car. "Jesus, is he always like this ?", Phil asked Diane. She just looked back in the car at Jack who was smiling. "I told you this was a bad idea, now we have an eight year old on our hands." Diane said to Phil. "Hey! Don't be talking about me while I'm sitting right here in the back." Diane felt that she could not take it anymore, with an angry look she looked at Jack and with a loud voice she said. "For the love of god, will you just sit there and shut up, or I will drop you into the Hudson river!" and she turned around. From there on Jack was quiet, he felt that this was enough for one day. When they reached the house Jack started to admire Phil's big house which was placed in a very private community. "You're doing good Phil my boy, are you a Pimp or something?" Jack once again tried to play with Phil's nerves. Phil just opened the door that leads to the house. "After you Jack." and he sighed for a moment. "Hey! Where's my little devil of a daughter!" Christie heard a familiar voice, she could not believe that her father was here, as she heard his voice she came running from her room into her father's arms. "Hi dad! I've missed you so much." Jack once again felt alive again there wasn't a more special feeling than hugging his daughter. "Hi baby, how are things, settled okay?" Christie didn't want to answer that question right in front of her mother and Phil. "Come dad let me show you my room!" Her room was a guest bedroom with a desk which was a computer, she tried to hang a few rock band posters on the walls, and a picture of their parents and behind them was the Statue of Liberty. Jack immediately saw that picture and looked at it for a few seconds. He thought to himself "Woow, we were so happy back then." "Nice room honey, don't worry I will come to visit you every day." He felt sorry for not being able to see her around the house, after Diane broke up with him, Christie was the single one who could understand Jack, they were like a team. Christie's smile started to disappear. Jack felt that something was wrong. "That's nice dad, but do you have a plan?" Jack thought he knew what this was all about, he sat on the bed and kissed Christie's forehead. "I'm trying sweetheart, I really am." For the first time he felt insecure talking about him and Diane. Hearing all this, Christie smiled and hugged her father, Jack seemed to have all in control but inside he hadn't thought of a way to win Diane again. "It was good seeing you again baby. I better get going before the wardens will exile me from this place." Jack kissed one more time Christie's forehead and left her room. Downstairs, Phil, and Diane were having a conversation. "Should we tell him?" Phil asked Diane. "God no! If he finds out now, he will never leave us alone." said Diane with an angry voice. "Okay, but he will eventually find out." Jack heard a little of their conversation, he suspiciously asked. "Find what out? " He looked at the couple but their lips were sealed, their eyes were looking down. "Oh, nothing important. We were just talking" said Diane with a guilty look, her eyes was betraying her, there was a secret, a big secret. "Hmm...curious, anyway I better get going to my empty home. You kids be nice okay?" He tried to kiss Diane but she stepped back. "Wow, not even a goodbye. Okay" he sighed "I'm off..." "Let me walk you, Jack." said Phil, who was very relieved that Jack was leaving. The two were in front of the main door, before Phil opened the door he smiled for a second at Jack and said "She's a keeper Jack, I don't know how you managed to let this one go. Oh well good for me." after that he opened the door. Jack was in front of the door with his head down. "This isn't over Baldy! Don't get your hopes up." Jack didn't even turn around to see Phil, he went outside to look for a cab. "Oh...I almost forgot Jack." Phil opened the door once again, Jack stopped for a minute. "Hope you guys will be planning another album soon." Hearing all this Jack finally turned around a looked curiously. "Why would you care?" , asked Jack who never would of thought of Phil being a fan. "You really don't know Jack? Hahaha...." Phil laughed for a moment and then continued "Does the name Mylles ring a bell?" The name sounded familiar in Jack's mind, "Mylles? Mylles? Who could it be" said Jack to himself, then he remembered, his world had fallen even more. "F**k." said Jack and walked away disappearing into the night while smoking a cigar. "It was pleasure Jack!" Phil yelled and then closed the door. Jack could not believe how dark his world was. He called Steve. "Hello?", Steve answered. With a hoarse voice he asked Steve. "Do you know a Phil Mylles?" Jack wanted to be sure, he still could not believe it, he was praying that Steve would say no. After a moment of thinking Steve remembered. "Isn't he the owner of Mylles Records? Where we are signed with." In that moment Jack couldn't even have the power to say another word, he closed the phone. He couldn't believe that Phil was the owner of the record company where their band was signed. Jack walked all the way home, his ego was crushed. He entered the house, he went to the living room and looked through the window, memories of him and his family started to unlock in his head, he could not take it anymore. He walked around the house, trying to forget but the pain was too much for him to handle. He saw a photo of all three of them in L.A. "Back when things were simple, and we were happy." he nodded his head and smiled. He picked his phone and called Nick, his best friend. "Yes?" Nick answered. "Hey Nicky! It's me Jack, how's life under the gold Californian sun?" "Ooh. Hey Jack, nice hearing from you, everything is good here." "I bet. Producing crappy T.V. shows were your dream." "I guess...so how are Diane and Christie?" Jack could not answer on that question, he paused for a few seconds, he didn't know how to began the story. "Hello? Are you still there Jack?" asked Nick, he sensed that something was wrong. "I'm here. They've...umm...left, Nick, and left me in this big house alone." He then sighed. "I'm so sorry Jack. So any plan?" Jack laughed because that was what his daughter asked him. "I was wondering, any room for an old fucked up man like myself on the west coast. Just for a few weeks until I cool down." Nick had no problem in having Jack as a guest, they were best friends since their childhood. "No problem! You're always welcome here Jack. The house is too big anyway for one person." "Thanks Nick. I'll give you a call when I'm on the coast. Bye." After the call, Jack lit another cigar and went to the garage to pick up his sports convertible car, he was in a state a shock, that was one of the worst nights he ever encountered. He drove to Steve's house late at night. Jack knocked loudly at the door. Steve frightening who could be at the door at this hour he slowly opened. "Hey Steve, sorry for waking you up at this hour, but I got to tell you something." Steve had no idea what Jack wanted to say, he feared that something was going wrong. "This better be good Jack? " Jack didn't know how to start. He felt that this band was the family he never had, they were always there for him, and he was there for them. "I just can't do it anymore, Steve. I need a break." Jack was looking terrible, with his soul broken, he felt that all these things were happening too fast. Steve tried to understand what he was talking about. "I don't know if I quite understand, you said you want a break?" Jack hated to repeat himself, he looked into Steve's eyes and with a beaten man voice he said. "Just for a short period a time. I can't do it anymore Steve, things are fucked up. Diane left me with our f*****g owner, the house feels so cold, I can't take it anymore." Steve felt heartbroken too, his long time friend had a huge problem that he could not resolve, he understood his agony, and accepted the break from Jack. "It's okay Jack, take all the time you need, I'll talk to the guys, they'll understand." Steve was hurt that his band was on a hiatus, but he believed that Jack would come back strengthened than ever. "Thank you Steve. Now can I use your help on one more thing?. It's more of a wing man thing" Jack had a plan before leaving town. Steve didn't know what this plan was all about, he didn't question Jack's plan but agreed to help him. He went into the car with Jack and drove off. As they reached their destination Steve asked. "What are we doing here Jack?" Steve didn't realize the plan Jack plotted. "You will find out soon enough Steve, I'll show that family stealer." Then Steve understood what was this all about, it was more of a revenge plan than a need for help. "Jack! I hope you aren't going to do something stupid." Frighteningly said Steve. Jack just looked at Steve very serious without showing any smile. "You will take the wheel and at my signal you hit the gas." Steve started to have second thoughts about Jack's plan, he knew that something bad was going to happen. Jack opened a bottle of whiskey which he had bought on his way to Steve's house, drank it until he felt that was enough. "Slow down Jack! What the hell are you thinking?" Jack was getting weirder and weirder in Steve's mind. "All right, take the wheel and at my signal hit it okay?", said Jack. Steve moved up to the driver's seat and was in a state of shock. "What's the signal Jack?" Steve asked. Jack went to the back of the car to get his baseball bat. "Oh...don't worry you will know." Jack called Diane's number. A purring voice answered. "Hello?" "Diane, come quickly outside something bad happened I need to see you right away." "What? What happened?" Diane hadn't got any idea what was going on, she thought that Jack had done something stupid again. "No time to explain. Just come outside quickly we have no time." , said Jack with a scary voice. Diane rushed outside, just to see Jack in front of her house. She looked at Jack frighten that something happened to him. "What happened?" Jack grabbed her and passionately kissed her, Diane tried to pull herself out, but Jack was holding her too tight. He let go of her, touched her cheeks and said. "I will always love you no matter what happens. You will always be my first love no matter what." Diane was speechless she didn't know what to say, then Jack grabbed his baseball bat and smashed Phil's car window. When Phil heard the noise he rushed out to see what was happening. "Are you mad! My car!", Phil screamed. He saw Jack smashing with intense passion Phil's beloved expensive car. Jack felt more happy and relaxed after he had done such a thing. Jack yelled "Now Steve, hit it!", Steve started the car, Jack ran towards the car and hopped in it. While in the car, he yelled at Phil. "Hey Phil! "Jack showed him his middle finger. "Don't worry Diane, I'll come back for you." Christie went outside too because of all the noise that was waking all the neighborhood, she just saw her father showing the finger to Phil. When Jack saw her he yelled again. "Keep an eye on your mother not to do any stupid stuff, baby, I'll be back to save you guys from this castle." The car started to vanish into the night. Steve was very scared, all this seemed madness to him. "What the f**k was that Jack? Are you crazy! You psycho lunatic!" Screamed Steve while driving. "Hahaha...I never felt so alive Stevie boy. Now let's get you home and I'll be on my way to the city of angels." Along the way to Steve's house the two friends were very quiet. Steve parked Jack's car. He was happy that this was all over. "Well Steve! Thank you for all. I better get going now." Steve left the car, he turned around towards Jack and said. "This was truly something else, good night Jack!" He entered the house. Jack was lonely in his car, he drove straight to the highway which was leading to the golden coast. © 2013 Nick.BAuthor's Note
