EYES

EYES

A Poem by NickAsAWriter
"

A love disappeared just as fast as it appeared.

"

The train had just turned the corner

And I handed over my ticket

Your eyes met mine as you took my hand

Leading me to unknown lands

Connecting felt so easy

Like I could tell you anything

The words would fall right from my lips

And onto your heart

The way that you would smile

After I'd make a joke

Brought out a part of me

I didn’t even know

I wore my emotions on my sleeve

And that's not much like me

But after your hands touched mine

Suddenly, I didn't mind

There came a day when

I heard whispers on the wall

Silence and confusion sat between us

For the rest of the fall

Was it true what you said?

Not a lover, not a friend

Too embarrassed to be seen with me

Is it for who I am?

Did you regret those September nights?

When your body mixed with mine?

Did you feel something, too?

Or did you blame it on the wine?

We talked less and less now

I’d pick my brain for hours

Wondering what had left our love

Abandoned and sour

Unable to accept the truth,

The next month came

Your eyes failed to see mine

And heaven had closed its gates

I was forced to accept

As I moved forward on my own

For I knew this wasn’t fair

To the person I’ve become

I watched you fade in the distance

And then, and only then

When it was all too late

Your eyes met mine, again
