Chapter 5A Chapter by NickAsAWriterCHAPTER 5 Darkness surrounded my whole figure, threatening to seize my entire existence. The sensation of floating swifted throughout my body. I was engulfed in a state of confusion and odd satisfactory, not comprehending what was going on at the moment. Maybe I’m in heaven I thought to myself. Maybe this is all just a dream. Questions continued to swirl around inside my head, twisting endlessly into an evil sense of desperation. Desperation for answers. Snap out of it! I forced myself. I pinched myself on my right forearm. Nothing. “This is real” I whispered to myself. I didn’t want to come to the realization that none of this was a dream. I got up, not knowing where I was or where I was going. I pushed my hands out to the side to find a barrier. A wall. Anything. Both of my arms that I had propelled had came in contact with what seemed as two irregularly hole-punched walls on either side of me. I slid my hands over the surfaces, feeling for a lever. I had already thought that I had seen the impossible from what happened a few minutes ago, so a secret latch wouldn’t surprise me at the slightest. Sadly, the best thing my hands came in touch of was the same rickety rock filled surface. I gently swung my right foot out behind me to make sure the passageway door was behind me and I wasn’t going in the wrong direction. Reassurance sounded like the best medicine right now. My feet met with the stone cold doorway which made me feel somewhat safer. No one else seemed to be around or near me, based off off of the dead silence infused around me. I took in three heavy breaths before embarking on whatever journey I was about to experience. I almost fell over after I took my first step from the unstable nausea feeling that had earlier arose in my stomach. I kept my hands situated on the stone walls, not daring to let go of them in case something were to happen. After a while my steps seemed to be improving, but the conclusion of my expedition seemed miles away. My instincts told me I had been walking for a good 30 minutes now, just walking straight into who knows what. This was the only direction I could go since my hands led me to no other option. It was strange. The walls from inside this prolonged corridor had several holes in them and felt as though rocks were deliberately attached to them to glue everything together. The Walls from inside Mickelemant were as smooth as silk. No stones or cracks and certainly no holes were indented in them. 45 minutes passed. An hour. At least that’s what it felt like. I couldn’t stop the ongoing pounding of my heart. Where was this inky filled hallway leading me? Was this all some sort of joke that would inevitably lead me to my death? I tried with all of my might to push those questions to the side and out of my mind. I had more important things to focus on right now. My energy rapidly began to decline. Exhaustion and fatigue took over my body severely, leaving my body in sharp guts of pain every once in a while. The lack of food was really beginning to come into charge. I had ran the situation out at least 100 times. That I would find this passageway and something would happen. Good or bad. But...what I was going through now was just...strange. Never had the idea of walking a long hallway entrapped by two hole-stained walls cross my mind. The sharp pain that popped throughout both of my legs and arms was unbearable to hold. I let myself rest for 10 minutes before getting up to move again. The curiosity inside of me was too much for me to stop now. Every minute I was waiting, I was wasting. I forced myself up and continued my journey out into the oblivion. Something is out there, wherever I’m heading. Something had to be. After about another 15 minutes of walking into the darkness of the corridor, my eyes caught on to a flickering bright green light. The light was in the shape of a torch. It was not near as bright as the light I had seen in my dreams and the light I had seen when I first walked into the passageway door, but it was still a light. The light only gave me visibility again for a few seconds and a short distance, but it was a sign. I spun around to try and get a good look at my surroundings. There were two walls opposite of each other mounted on either side of me. Cracks formed along every square inch of the walls. The corridors were stained with a pitch-black shade mixed in with dark grey blotches. The ground I was walking on was a smooth mahogany surface. Segments of rocks were scattered on some places of the floor. As I felt along the walls earlier, there were holes the size of my head imprinted on the sides of the walls. Almost as if someone threw one large rock at the barriers. An uneasy vibe was sent inside toward me and made the hair on the back of my neck stand up. For some odd reason, the whole image of the walls and where I am made me sick. It was weird, somewhat as if I felt like I was meant to be here. Like this was where I belonged and what I was doing and where I was going was...right. I approached the searing light, examining the object with hope and somewhat fear. It was hard to look into the light directly since it was such a sudden change from darkness to brightness. The wood- like structure held the torch with pride; stability flowing on either ends. My eyes met with six distinct words scattered across the rear of the torch - “Keep Moving, Do Not Stop. Ever.” Someone was knocking; almost banging. It shook my entire figure from the inside, but was untraceable from exterior vision. Almost as if someone had a knife. A sharp, indescribably large knife. Those words were slowly scratched into my body, staining every plain on my body. Pain continued to cease my existence and fatigue took over my body with the swift of a tongue. Was this a sign that I am going to die? I thought to myself. My mind swirled with questions, my heart desperately wanting answers. Why me? Out of everybody, it had to be me? Reluctantly, I kept moving. If all of this impossible stuff has happened to me in just the past few days, I wouldn’t be surprised at the least if something else bizarre happened. I couldn’t help my stomach from the inevitable growling that shook the whole corridor. My eyelids began to flicker open and shut several times. I couldn’t help but consider the fact that I should go back. Or just stop. I don’t know. But somebody had written that note. Somebody had had to have been in the same corridor I am standing in now. Don’t think, just walk. Don’t think, just walk. * * * As of what seemed, 10 minutes passed. 30 minutes. An hour. I slumped myself against the moss covered wall, heaving in and out deep breaths. Tears were beginning to fog up my vision. My sweat covered hand attempted to push them away, away from my entire existence. Just when I was about to give up, die right then and there on the spot, a soft whisper accompanied with the shine of a light emerged from my right. “There’s another one in here” © 2015 NickAsAWriter |
