The first one droops

The first one droops

A Poem by Nick

I thought it would take longer

to see the first one droop

the first to fall

yet it knew in time

what had passed.

in the good days

tall and proud

full of life

eager to grow taller and brighter

excited to love.

with every morning breath

they felt stronger

like they could conquer the world.

Time passes

growing, learning, loving

new challenges, new beginnings, new feelings

leaves may fall as they grow...

the small ones make room

for bigger ones to join them

Loss

with enough care and love

anything can happen

when someone stops showing

their love and affection

it gets harder to survive

the long days and early nights

Care less

now it’s my turn.

I’m the one who needs to change.

new color, new leaves, new routine, new me.

yet that’s not who I am.

how am I to change what I can’t easily control?

my affection and care

doesn't flip like a switch

like a beckoning call through silent night

It’s me

I’m me.

I know who I am.

I care too much

love too much

show affection too often

I'm too much.
