Not me, but anotherA Poem by NichtSorenFeelings sometimes rhyme without trying...
I may not have been the greatest,
Nor the wisest of my day.
I may not have been the kindest,
With only gentle words to say.
I may not have lived the longest,
Nor had hair of white and grey.
I may not have had the surest
Of beliefs that led my way.
But I always had my heart,
within my chest and within my mind
Ready with its charming art,
To warm and to remind.
Remind me of my gallant youth
Of many a task and tarry.
With many a noble and heavy truth,
I could make little but merry.
It was but once I found another
Another possessor of this truth.
Hope rose to understand the other,
And love the understanding’s proof.
Thus would I never linger, never last
I might rest in my cadence
If only a glimpse as she passed
Lent me her eternal pleasance.
