Tempting Fate

Tempting Fate

A Poem by Polaroid Impossible
"

Pushing the boundaries. How far is too far? Coincidence or fate..

"

Early morning, empty bottles of wine define me

Smoke doused clothes hang lifeless on my body

The very seat I sit, repulsed by its obligation to console

Scrunched up, ink raped paper lay beneath me

     Forgotten words, spoken prematurely

Sitting up as my head punishes each sense

My blood stained shirt smiles up at me

Smirking with a knowledge I will never understand

My mother once told me I have always tempted fate

Never stopping to think that perhaps fate tempts me

A role reversal, a bitter taste for a sweet tooth

Too fragile for interrogation, nervously awaiting

Fear reciting familiar lines that echoes the order

Imperfections drain the limbs I hold close

Running without legs in pursuit of the chase

Stop to a red warning, the riot has run its course

Clichés taint and damage an already broken soul

Attempt living that life without one failure

For me a sweet ignorance will suffice

Give me that poison until I grow a resistance

   Memories converge, commune and commemorate

   Prophets, preachers and pessimists alike

Ready for our reckoning, pleased with the damage

Each one steps forward to collect their fate

Gresham...too many good lines to quote a favorite..
Give me a poison until I grow a resistance...another way of saying
.
what does not kill you can only make you stronger?

We try to make a mockery of fate...but the question remains..is it fate..that makes a mockery of us? High scores.
