Jezebel of the Well

Jezebel of the Well

A Poem by Justin Powell
"

A poem/lyric about the American painter Georgia O'Keeffe.

"

A jezebel of the well, an artist given in"

Flood waters flow in distant whispers.

The gates burst open in her haven dreams.

America weaves together canvases.

Love letters to the landscape.

A desert love song.

From the faraway nearby,

Lonesome artist on the back of a fallen firebird

From the flood of a perched muse

Where the heart of the Americas bleeds over

A jezebel of the death knell"

Of a landscape torn by skull and bones.

The gates of the Ghost Ranch are broken.

Her haven dreams are given life"

In the death valleys of the southwest.

Wet paints coat the red sands of the red hills.

From the faraway nearby,

Lonesome artist on the back of a fallen firebird

From the flood of a perched muse

Where the heart of the Americas bleeds over

Dreaming in red,

A Judas kiss upon the sanctuary.

Secrets like rust belt victims spill forth

Trampled by the horses of the flood.

American tears through a painter’s brush.

A jezebel in graveyard dreams"

Still breaches southwest wells.
