A Birthday Gone

A Birthday Gone

A Poem by Daniel Whitaker

Today's your birthday,
I'm sorry I'm not there.
I wish you could understand,
I had to move.
I had no other choice,
I will always love you.
You and your sister,
You both are my kids.

I miss you,
I want to see you.
I can't,
I live so far away.
Let me explain,
I moved because I couldn't handle it.
I couldn't take the responsibility.

I know that y'all are my siblings,
But I raised you.
I should have some say,
But I can't.
I was stressed,
You weren't the problem.
I was,
I'll miss your birthday for years to come.

I love you Samuel,
I love you Rachel.
I love you both,
Tell Mom that I miss her...
