Adult Lessons

Adult Lessons

A Poem by Devin
"

You will live life. You will have loved ones and family. At the same time you may have no one. You must learn to fend for yourself and learn life as well as live it. Remember who you are.

"
Climbing the stone ladder to where you are
Cutting the skin of your life on each shale
Alone climbing in the rain, sleet, and sun
Do not stop though, keep climbing

You will fall a few steps, to catch yourself below
People will hold you, people will push you
You may love, you may hate
Do not stop though, keep climbing

Learn the path of the ladder, the side trails
Take yourself further up the bent structure
Take the hands that help, because they know.
Do not stop though, keep climbing

Learn the rules of life, educate yourself
You will fail, you will fall
You will have friends, and you will be alone
Do not stop though, keep climbing

FIRST IMPRESSION

The quote below the title is the best advice that you can give anyone. It summarizes the theme of "Adult Lessons."

The first stanza allows the reader to simply connect to the reader instead of confusing them with extended metaphors. The "climbing up the stone ladder" action represents "physical" and "mental" endurance.

The "physical" endurance refers to the actual act of going up the ladder. Objectively, it is the goal of the reader. The "mental" endurance refers to all goals within the mind. For instance, the American dream; dream all the you can be.

The third stanza also stuck out for me as well. Subjectively, it is read as "experiencing" the world by "hands on" methods.

The last stanza was my favorite "Adult Lesson" yet. "Educating yourself" is the best method of perseverance.

SUGGESTIONS

Study the following more closely:

1. Family
2. Society
3. Media
4. Government
5. Business
6. Religion
7. Education

My Philosophy professor was very adamant about these "Wretched Institutions." He got this from a philosopher. Please check which one:P If you do not get to it then do not fret.
