Absent Friends

 

I notice there are

red berries

on the trees again

this autumn

and in such great

    abundance ..

But no wax-wings

to cull them

nor any squirrels,

bullfinches,

   

  or other rodents ..

Last winter,

was hard on them

     too my love ..

Come to think on it, I've only saw one grey squirrel and no reds this year... and I've got forest surrounding me. Maybe they'll come back from their holidays now it's snowing again. We'll, you do get sick of pina cold as eventually, so I'm told! 😃

from the title i was expecting a lament, but it almost turned into an ode to your garden, as well as the creatures that inhabit it. it was very touching that you give so much thought to the mice that live. they are cute, although i wouldn't dare touch them. a surprising and moving outing. reading this added a bit of colour to my day.

Beautiful nature poetry. I envisage either a garden setting or woodland near home. However, there is a sadness here. Your avian friends and other creatures are missing. Last year’s winter killed them off. The love you are addressing, appears to have suffered too. A combination of two different themes here. Quite lovely Neville.

There is also a metaphor here. Mustn’t forget that my friend :)
