New Oils on An Old Canvas

New Oils on An Old Canvas

A Poem by Neville

New Oils on An Old Canvas

It all began with a single

   stroke ..

Indeed, with the very

gentlest

of confident yet delicate

   touches ..

Followed closely behind

by a swish

and swirl and deliciously

light, tap,

tap, tap, tapping and all

tapped,

with the tip of one of his

finest

   sable haired brushes ..

Twas

then, she bit her bottom

lip and did

allow the shawl to slip,

whether

by some freak accident,

or some

peculiar and odd design ..

He though,

just smiled and replaced

it so as no

one else would ever notice ..

A poem with a sensual touch to it, that's deft yet subtle. Perhaps, she's turned on by the maestro, his effortless, unassuming air, his quiet sensuality. Women do set a store by such men.

Another, parallel image that ran through my mind was him, retouching her in his painting.

A beautiful poem, dear Neville.

this is a very interesting drama between two characters. while we learn very little about them, the simple gestures says a lot. in this vignette we see a dimly lit art studio, a strangely intimate setting and subtle movements create tension and chemistry. the first lines 'It all began with a single stroke ..' is ingenious. reminding us that even masterpieces begin with a first step.
