Watching Swifts

Watching Swifts

A Poem by Neville
"

Not to be confused by the most amazing novel with the same title, penned by none other, than our own R.J Askew here in the café

"

Watching Swifts

Do you ever think

it possible,

or even likely that,

there

might be anything

more

enjoyable, in this

world of ours, than

the two of us ..

Just watching swifts,

as they duck

and dive and scythe

the sky

with their wings

and cut it into

bite size fragments

for us ..

While we lay here,

on our backs

with just fingertips

touching ..

Here, in this warm

beer scented,

pub garden, while

sharing

the last torn slice of

a king sized

Margarita pizza ..

Tho’ yet

still, with the promise

of later, for us

both to look forward to ..

You know this is just my cup of tea. I love the contrast between the swifts flying high and their sudden movements, to the tranquility and stillness of the two who are grounded. This is perfect happy. Pass that pizza. A lovely poem. One of your best my friend.

I am delighted Thomas, thank you .. Neville
A beautiful old fashioned romantic write which is so heart-warming to read, Neville. You sketch a very amorous picture of lovers enjoying a wonderful time watching the birds as they carve their niche in the sky and look forward to an even more wonderful time in a lovely Beer Garden as they enjoy pizza with a promise of a very sweet dessert afterwards. Romance at its best and you have captured it superbly. Lovely work, Neville. Thank you for sharing...

You are more than welcome N
I am assuming that Swifts are birds? The words "sky" and "wings" are what cued me to that.
And here we are again, a romantic day, a romantic afternoon, a romantic twilight all leading up to a romantic night...in answer to your question, not much could be better except maybe some sausage on that pizza.
