Something About Shells

 

There is something

about shells,

the nature and form

  of them ..

It’s the way that they

capture

the ocean and sound

  of her voice ..

There is something

about shells,

the weight and the feel

of them

as they do call to us,

o’er the cry of

those desperate gulls ..

Yes indeed,

there is something a tiny

bit special

about shells, as they lay

empty just

waiting to haunt us with

the call, the kiss

  and mighty roar of the sea ..

Perhaps a hark back to that generational tongue twister ' She sells seashells by the seashore, yep renowned paleontologist and fossil collector, Mary Anning along with the poet so mesmerised with the allure of that now empty and lonesome exoskeleton yet still conjures up memories of former days when life was fruitful and love was abounding ...

Really like this one because it reminds me of the conch shell my nan gave me when I left her home as a seven year old. At night time I would hold it to my ear and hear the ocean’s ebb and flow. It brought comfort and I would spend an age buffing up that opaline so the pinks and greens were gleaming.
