What is Wrong With This Tongue

What is Wrong With This Tongue

A Poem by Neville

What is Wrong With This Tongue

What is wrong

with

this tongue ..

Every

now and again

it tends

to disobey me ..

I can

occasionally

feel it,

mouthing your

name ..

Mostly after

dark,

when we are

both so

incredibly hungry ..

Yet though

I deny it, I can

still taste

those rock pools

and the honey

of course,

you were once

famous for ..

Then later, while

smelling

of bergamot,

tansy and clover

the way you

would, fresh from

the shower ..

I shall bury my

head in

your deep sweet

scented pillow ..

And like that,

fall asleep, albeit

fitfully ..

Until dawn arrives,

to insult

and to taunt me

again by your

cruel absence ..

Only then,

shall I curl up in

a ball like a

foetus once more

against

your soft palate ..

But barely

and briefly,

only partially sated ..

'What is Wrong with this tongue'
Neville,
Everywhere one goes we never know the stories surrounding. Yours, mine... This poem you wrote reminded that I need to walk gently among my fellow travelers on this earth. Carefully, kindly because 'you never know.' It happens many a time that I will find later after a conversation or a 'trying to help time' that I did not understand the loss I walked into. Great reminder of this broken state a heart can be.

The tongue wags and its connection though running deep may appear superficial on its slipping every so often. Very intriguing thought process in this poem, N. The mouthing of a name could very well be the height of a tongue's sensuous career. May the cherished bring their fruit as we bridge them with even more words.

I like this one a lot. To me, it speaks of a love so personal and deep it consumes the lover. Like Paul Simon wrote, "Delores, I live in fear, my love for you is so overpowering I'm afraid that I will disappear" That sort of love. We can't climb again into the womb to be reborn by our lovers, in their image, forever attached by that bond. We can't be "one" with them and the separation makes us crazy. But love like that doesn't "happen". It is grown over time; years and years of shared sorrow, joy and fortunes. You can't expect more out of garden than what you plant in it. Still, you have to keep the rows weeded and the roots fed if you expect a decent harvest. Everything is work, including love. And like Confucius once wrote, "It is better to light a single candle than to curse the darkness." I think that means, Do something, no matter how little it may seem, to make things better. It may not solve the problem but you will have the satisfaction of having made an honest effort. I enjoyed the read.
