Atarashī Kodō ga Hajimaru Shunken

 

Only a moment after she placed her left hand lightly

beneath the folds of her new silk kimono

and held it there, like that, for just a moment longer ..

 

It must have been that second moment surely when

those fingertips carelessly, caressed her belly

she first felt and became aware of Hajimi kodo ..

 

Then she could not stop the smile from forming, nor did

she want to hide it from her lover, yet both knew

she would need a new set of netsuke, before summer ..

 

To protect her modesty of course and save her blushes from

the prying eyes and wagging tongues of springtime

once the snow had melted and the cherry blossom flowered ..

Wow, Neville...this is a fabulous story...I just love it. Flowed so well...
Perhaps the fact that a baby (girl) is coming inspired you to write this one.
Is the title of your poem what you wrote at the bottom? And, Hajimi the name of the baby?

Hello Lisa, typing with one finger .. Thank you so very much for this most recent of visitations .. I am excruciatingly grateful .. Although I am expecting my first granddaughter in July, this little scribble was inspired by other similar events and long before my future granddaughters gender had been determined .. Yes, the title is as stated at the bottom and meant to reflect the Japanese Atarashī Kodō ga Hajimaru Shunken .. No hajimi is not a childs name, but the word for 'begin' but can see why you may have thought otherwise .. thanks again for such a heart-warming and encouraging review note .. I went with my daughter yesterday & her husband for a 4D scan .. and beside the visual and audio recordings and colour photo's we were given (well bought actually) we also got a furry bunny with a recording of my first grandchild's (heartbeat inside) .. she is a girl, by the way ....... ❤️

Those prying eyes and wagging tongues never stop, do they?
A beautiful moment in the journey of life, that everyone and their dog think belongs to their minds, too small to cover their gossiping mouths.
Why can't people just be happy for others, silently, instead of telling everyone what they think, by talking and not thinking?
Ps...yes Nev, I am aware I just told you what I think and apologies, but if I hear one more conversation with the words "well, I just think..." I think ill just scream in their faces what I think! 😊
Pps... There's nothing quite like a Monday morning rant to make you feel better 😊
