Whether in my garden or in the marina, I sit back and watch the Red Kites as they grace the air. You can hear them whistle. And then there are the other type of kites which kids and bigger kids fly. I like them too. Both are fascinating and relaxing to watch. Wind Dancers they are indeed. They have the freedom of the sky. I like your back to front 7/5/7 Neville, and your play on words.

I'll tell you a secret to flying a kite with your granny (who willnot run with it) I tie it to a fishing pole and give it a fling. Wa-La. A kite in flight.

indeed a kite in flight is a luverly sight, unless ya flying by moonlight in the middle of the night :)

The Ukiah is frequently referred to as the reverse Haiku a Ukiah‘s main characteristics are as follows .. at its most basic, it is:
• Stanzaic: one tercet (three-line stanza)
• Syllabic: 7/5/7 across the three lines
• Rhymed: the rules determined by the creator (Robert Ropars) mentions rhyming lines, so maybe it could also be aba?)
• Titled

I think the high flying, carefree kite is us as kids this then becoming the adult us when it hits the ground, has the wind taken from it.
I cannot for the life of me do haiku

Your idea is good but this is not haiku. I'm not going to school you here. Message me if you want me to let you know what the form has to have. Or just Google haiku

in literal terms, you are of course correct & I thank you for your very kind offer .. however, I am more than familiar with haiku form and have been since long before Google was ever conceived .. my title should have read 'Ukiah' and has since been amended accordingly ..that'll teach me to try and type whilst shaving, won't it.

Gujarat, India holds an International Kite competition. They have a name for it that I can't remember but I know it's held in the middle of January. Anyway, I liked the poem.
