Evocative is the word that sprang instantly to m ind as I read this Neville. The first stanza is quite haunting and the imagery conjured up in the minds eye reminds me so much of the daily commute that was my life before Charlie.
Love this, really do.

I admit I am a strange one but I have always had a fascination with riding trains of all kinds and it has always been about observing as a passenger we become instant observers we arent steering so well might as well look right? my head never stops examining things whether it's the backyards of a hundred homes or the train facade of a hundred passengers you can see a lot hidden in the anonymity of passage

You are of course write and I thank ye for it Robert and truly ...
I like this, a spring morning commute made to sound so simple...
"So many
Early morning metro face
Naked
Fading
Orange"
(I might as well quote almost the whole poem)
"So wave
Goodbye to winter for me
Darling
Since I am still a stranger
Surely …
Yet familiar
With approaching dawn"
I loved these last lines, "Since I am still a stranger" just another face in the crowd...
Nice simple yet complex little poem, thanks for sharing, Neville!

I love your poem, which reminds me how we aren't too "metro" oriented here in the USA. There's a "metro" presence in big cities, but most of us commute alone in our cars with tunes blasting while flipping off other drivers as we crawl to work bumper-to-bumper. Seems the "metro" scene is simpler & more connected, more vibrant perhaps (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

Hey .. hello my long lost buddy .. s' so good to hear from ya .. I do believe you have been very busy recently ... write on BG and stay well (NUGS) fondly, N :)
Reminded me of commuting into London and then taking the tube for an early morning meeting. Casting my eyes in the direction of the orange glow of sunrise which was far more interesting and uplifting than the many expressionless faces surrounding me. We were all strangers on the tube but had a common familiarity about us. Always good to say goodbye to winter when and wherever you are. I'm not sure I would like to do that commute again. Kind of relieved to still be in bed reading your lines rather than living them. A nostalgic journey for me Neville in perfect clarity. You just reminded me of my briefcase and I'm not talking knickers either :) A visual read which evoked some feelings of tension I might add.
