Lockdown Grey

Lockdown Grey

A Poem by Neville

Lockdown Grey

Yesterday I planned

to climb a tree

In my head that is ..

Then just maybe

a mountain too ..

And afterwards

before bed tho’

A slow walk perhaps

around our favourite

harbour and the bay

Yes today I could

almost taste

salt on your hair

In my head, that is ..

And long I willed

the wind to free

and fan those

fiery wisps of yours

Into a wilden frenzy

Yes, I almost felt

your hand in mine,

curled fingers tight

But then

the call came in

and everything

in my head that is,

Turned from gold

to lockdown grey ..

Imagination is a wonderful thing. It can transport you on a whim to favourite places with special people. Your yesterday started so favourably with golden memories for you to feast on to lift you in lockdown and take you out of what is almost like house arrest (for me). How satisfying that must have been until that call arrived which turned your golden outlook back to lockdown grey. What a difference a few hours makes. Second stanza is both delightful and beautiful. Good morning Neville.

still this is very beautiful dear Neville, for me it was more like a meditation journey with all its bliss, feeling it real, until of course the last line when the real reality hit, and even that last line was written wonderfully adding a tender touch of yearning.

Bless You dear N✨ never forget to Smile* 💕
Love the lingering longing in your tone, missing someone, missing life. Your poem could be about the isolation of lockdown or it could be about when someone's heart goes on lockdown . . . or when some necessary aspect of living, some buoyant aspect of freedom we've taken for granted is put on lockdown. It can happen in so many ways & always a shock (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

As my social life is pretty much confined to three supermarkets and two drugstores, I can identify with this one. Sometimes the imagination has to serve as a substitute. As the saying goes, it's a nice place to visit, but I wouldn't want to live there. Given another six months of immobilization, however, I might be more flexible with that last part.

For me every line talks of strength and wisdom from climbing experiences even though our minds are like a talking crazy monkey constantly making a fuss yet same time memories come in when reflecting on love, resilience and the capacity of seizing such beautiful delicacies that is her love. In the last stanza " Yes, I almost felt your hand in mine, curled fingers tight But then the call came in and everything in my head that is Turned from gold to lockdown grey." The dead-ends of such reflections but very powerful piece here your words drew me in and brought up memories of my own climbs. Keep writing sincerely your friend in writing and life .

Dreams fade, plans postpone, place rests silent except for weeping seagulls. However, don't doubt your imagination will hide away til the sun shines and footsteps echo harbour~side. Your poem has a C&W air, a wistful greyness that, sez me, suggests a touch of polish to buff up that gold.

Taste I agree Nev. has its capacity for memory - - -your word-splashed romantic canvas captures the need to re-paint lonely grey pathos with lost gold and does it so movingly --- glad I caught this one my friend.

WOW I started a poem in is still in my "starts" file I have to grab it now and show you...
I do re-mem-ber that smile on your face

Basking de-light in the warmth of its grace

Watched as the breeze lift and danced with your hair

I never finished it maybe I will maybe that was all I had to say... who knows! but it sat in my file and then I read your poem and now I see you finished it:) You love so very resplendent my good friend you make a poet proud of the mantle & moniker and may those dreams penetrate the grey fog of circumstance to many more resplendent reflections good sir!
