Endsong

Endsong

A Poem by Neville

Endsong

Hope

is where all wishes wait

In vaults too deep to contemplate

while time

Although preoccupied

declines to pause or hesitate

Yet seals

for eternity

The rich man

and the paupers fate …

Superb and profound Neville. I like the way you have staggered each thought. Works well. Yes, we are shackled to time -the great deceiver! Our common fate.
I feel winter coming on - usually it offers its own delights but we're all bit nervous.
It'll be fine!
Cheers,
Alan

Hi Neville - I love your poem, it reminds me of the regal grandeur of Ozymandias, lonely and timeless, in the desert ! x

Our fate is sealed, I feel. That makes this Endsong all the more beautiful. Sing it with hope, we must!

The last two lines are the best. It's something that's gonna stay with me for a long while. Great work.

You are right Neville.
"Both the rich man

It is what we do in life that matters. Dead men can't enjoy life. Outstanding poetry my friend.

I love your rhyme & rhythm here, but I would delete "both" from the penultimate line (picky! picky!) It is my humble opinion (in agreement with your message) that HOPE is one of those fundamental necessities for staying sane thru life. I love the line about time being preoccupied -- very clever! It is easier for a camel to pass through the blah blah etc... But havent they heard of liquidisers and syringes? Just make a person-smoothie and fire it through a needle, job done.
Although saying that, have you seen the price of people-blenders lately? Bloody shocking 😀

Very nice, N. The conflict between human hope and merciless time is the stuff of philosophy and myth. Brief, spare and very accessible. Liked it.

Nev, do you remember soap on a rope? I think I'll put my hope on a rope, life is already such a slippy slope and hope is slippier than soap!:)
