I am thinking of the Bristol suspension bridge, where many a poor soul has ended their days. Some even surviving in the thick sludge at low tide. It's all about building bridges and trust to get inside the locked minds of those imprisoned by their own torment. That is easier said than done. Those keys to padlocks don't come easy they have to be earned. Some keys fit, some don't. Anyone who finds they can't share their problems is at a huge disadvantage. Open up, I say, open up. Reflections in mirror glass, just make the whole sad tale worse. Who wants to be reminded. Strong write Neville. Much between the lines to ponder on.

But on that, I will not speak on.☺
That's why we write.
Everything is interpetated, painted , or perceived differently.🤷
There is such a bridge not far from where I live. I think the locks are supposed to mean eternal love. That, or imprisonment. If the latter, married people must have put them there.

.. you are not wrong there John and thanks for participating in this little exercise ... :)
I do seem to remember wondering what the flippity flop that was all about. I saw one in Paris and was told lovers put them on as a reminder... Isn't that what wedding rings are for?
And as for the other... Too many lost souls see only the darkness and can't find the words to convey how hopelessly lost they are.
There is something about bridges, isn't there?
No reason or key in sight... Powerful and resonant words here my friend.

You were told correctly Loz .. but for every one of those locks placed ... statistically .. only around one in a hundred loves last ... not all of the others jump of course, but some do and sadly .... thanks for your very reasoned response mate .. N
bridges so aptly take us from one side to the other...from good to bad or vice-versa...we can close gaps with bridges...we find safety above the abyss...but then...sometimes we seem to get stuck in the middle of one, and in our desperation think of jumping off...
we have to keep moving...there is safety and understanding on the other side. This is one of your best, Neville,

I'm afraid of heights so I'd never consider jumping.
Tightly locked, wonder if that's a metaphor. Probably not but it makes me think of those jumpers and the secrets they keep that lead to their actions.
