All the Young Dudes

All the Young Dudes

A Poem by Neville

All the Young Dudes

Do you remember

Way back in the day

There we all were

Just swanning around

In those café bars with

Nothing to do and

Nowt much to say but

Not a care in the world

Taking bets on that

French cigarette smoke

Just hanging around

Kind of a silvery grey

Loitering like lads

On street corners

While them hungry girls

Were doing ketamine

And slimming pills

With both feet tapping

Listening to the juke box

Playing Mott the Hoople

Feeling all of thirty-five

When we were seventeen

"Carry the news"
we are young again, aren't we?
well, the silvery grey is too evident...so i suppose not.
you created a scene here, Neville...got us there...you are quite good at doing that.

All the young dudes, carry the news, boogaloo dudes....those were the days my friend! Mott the Hoople knew what he was singing about. Not sure I want to be 17 again, but 35 would be nice. Great right....one many of us can identify with. Lydi**

This is my favorite magic carpet ride of this month! You really took me away with this one! I was all there! Hanging out . . . oh how I remember hanging out . . . just hoping for some chance encounter, some flirtation, some whiff of cologne . . . remembering each nuance for days. You captured so many popping details that paint an even more fulsome tapestry, depending on each reader's vantage point! (((BRAVO))) fondly, Margie

Pleasure Treasure.... :)
The era that fascinates me the most is the late sixties, early seventies; mostly I suppose because mum and dad were part of it, and my sister and I grew up on a diet of how it was back in the day.

I vividly recall a story my dad once told me about the first ever time he introduced my mini skirted, fashionably made up mum to grandpa. "He looked at her like she was an alien," he told me, "then gave a kind of a grunt and went back to reading the paper."

I think I would quite like to have been a sixties, or even a seventies girl, the music was great and far as I can tell, the eighties and nineties were quite tame in comparison. :))

Beccy.

Well Neville how I remember those days of lost youth...well, I think I remember them most days...Although half a century beyond my halcyon period...don't tell anyone, but deep inside there's a young guy screaming to get out.

Well said my friend.

Your back in style and didn't even know it. Silvery fox is all the rage these days. Men and women in their twenties and thirties are all about that suave shade. Even middle-aged queens like me appreciate that classic aged perfection. So flaunt it like your twenty until it goes back in the closet for the next 30 years.

The music was different in my part of the world, but you certainly captured the scene and mood of my younger days, Neville. It was in the American south, usually at a run-down bar on the edge of the college campus. Thanks for the trip down memory lane (though I didn't like 80s music much... then or now).

Times - they are a changing... I remember as you do feeling 35 at the ripe old age of 17. I wonder if the kids of today feel the same (oh wait I have two daughters....of course they do!!) :)
