still a beautiful place...but something is missing....the significant other who made all of those cobbled streets and perfect harbours really kiss the senses...
and i really like the metaphor of the harbours kissing like lovers.
so close, and yet so far.
really like this one Neville....so good to read you again.

Never been to Valetta but I sure would love to meet her, so I could break her promise too:( and then I could see that lovely view too:) by the way I feel this way about Maine all of the time it's been too long need to get back there soon. don't respond to this brother rest those eyes!!!!
I can hear the weary sighs of those harbours, locked in place, so near and yet so far, awaiting a seismic eruption to change their map forever. I hope their wait is worth it.
I wonder what they whisper to each other in the silence of night, butibet the world hears it when the earth finally moves them together 😀

Wish I had writ that for someone Lorry.. wot a wonderful thing... I bow to thy nib sir..... cheers N
This is how to make "setting" into a lively character in one's storyline. I can feel this place, as well as all that the place conjures up for this narrator. This happens alot, where the whole essence of a place gets tangled up in the all-too-human memories (((LONG))) Fondly, Margie

Feels like the one that could have been but ultimately wasn’t. How difficult it is to have those feelings stunted and go on through time wondering what might have happened if they had been free to bloom and fruit.
I love the juxtapositions in this. The water and sky. The two opposite harbors. The distance but closeness. Sometimes we can be very close but absolutely unreachable. And the ache that follows continues in its own life.
A beautiful poem, Neville. Good to see you sharing again.

thanking you dear Eilis and in more ways than one... N
I love seeing you around again! romance and longing are not for the weak of heart. This is a beautiful portrait of desire and location and how they play with one another to make memories that cannot be waived. Great piece Neville!!

Valetta, a most beautiful place. Visited twice, quite some time ago now. However the memories remain strong and the romance of the place even stronger. See you have your own very special memories, those of yours are tinged with sadness. Cobbled streets bring it all back, as do blue Maltese skies. Lovely work, although there is an ache running through your lines for something you no longer have. Good to see a new poem from you Neville.
The ache of true romance once promised now broken wrings the tears of changing time - - penned in your usual engaging discernment Malta and memories take on such special meaning. Pleased to see you posting again my friend.
