Herb Song

Herb Song

A Poem by Neville
"

tis what it say's on the tin..

"

Herb Song

I note where once her

Feet and skirts caressed

The meadow lightly

There the scent of wild

Herbs rose to satisfy the

Senses and then did follow

Wild mint and oregano

Each scythe scared yet served

To perfume my ladies hem

Mowed and harvested before

A pre dawn swift departure

And leaving not a scar behind

Sweet lemon balm and sage

When placed upon

The pulse of lovers then

Did serve to rouse and

Please then calm

The most ardent of libidos

Yes where her

Feet and skirts caressed

The meadow lightly

Twas there the very scent

And taste of wild herbs rose

To treat their bodies fondly

So stoked to read your herb poem, Neville. It is much more romantic than my solitary ode to land. I just mentioned on one of Gram's poems that I like to see how different people interpret different ideas or words and I feel that here too. Poetry is like a bottomless well. Give every poet a subject and you'll have an unfathomable amount of unique responses.

There's a lovely peace to this. The open field and the fragrances gifted by earth when it is left to do its own thing...and then the human connection. That edge of the story makes me think of medieval lovers. Stealing away to be alone at work. It's a lovely image and a little slice of the world where all seems right.

A beautiful poem.

And now that your title has grabbed all the stoners attention, you have opened a door to a surprising and delightful scene of peace and calm, from scented field to page. Done impeccably, as ever.
And now the scene has played, I conjure images of maids scurrying to arrange tiffin, whatever that may be 😀
Superbly done Sir. A plus.

It feels like you painted a beautiful scenery of meadow-scape. The details were colorful, I can smell the fragrance of the land, the herbs and everything as I read the lines. The scared emotions of scythe but realizing how its service can help enrich the look of the view.
This one made me get lost in its painting, now I just want to spend hours there and observe the beauty and smell the nature's perfume.
Hope no one will disturb me :D

How very bloomin kind my friend.. Many thanks indeed..
This lovely poem was a delight to read again. I have just come in from my garden where grows well, lemon balm, rosemary, lavender, mint and oregano. I need to look up sage and see what I am missing. You are a man who knows his herbs as well as his verbs.

Not a bad idea... I have three varieties growing at present 🌻
Your poem reads like a lullaby caress! One of my favorite things is coming in from puttering in the garden & smelling like the pungent plants I've rubbed against as I water & trim (especially fragrant pot plants budding this time of year!) I love the details of the plants you use to paint this graceful bit of longing (((HUMS))) fondly, Margie

Not much more to say Neville than what has already been said. Your herb song is up there with your best writing. A lovely and memorable, aromatic feast.

You are welcome.
An aroma of peace infuses these gentle lines - herbs that scent sensitive memory will always remind of days like you penned here - - I know the word snathe as snath but the same thing I believe -and the that tuft or beard on a stalk of barley is I presume what the herb-lady well knows........ a lovely song-tribute to a fortunate friend.
