Salt Marsh Fields

Salt Marsh Fields

A Poem by Neville

Salt Marsh Fields

Lavender

Lilac and forget

Me not blue

A blustery breeze

Be blowing but true

Butterflies buckets

And spades

Pon my word

My fine friend

Were those not

The days

Golden

And carefree

Sun downwardly

Beating

Cuckoo’s a coo kin

And spring

Lambs a bleating

In salt marsh

Fields silvered

Where we once

Shared our first kiss

Aye there

Where a handful of

Poppies provided

A pillow and

Wild garlic grew

In disorganised rows

Tis where we oft

Enjoyed picnics and always

Had daisies n sand tween

Each of our

Perfect pink toes

Your Salt Marsh Fields invites your readers to take a peep at possibly a memory of wonderful carefree times. Buckets and spades tells me of childhood. Your imagery is vivid and beautiful. You bring a wonderful ambience to the page and I do believe this is the style that I prefer from your pen best of all. No puzzles, just sheer poetry. Loved your lines Neville.

"In disorganised rows"... an image that comes to mind when I think about the past and lost love, messy but beautiful, and stored in our minds for times like this. Well said, sir.

Hey, thank you for taking the time to visit and leave such an encouraging comment... Neville
This is memory lane set to music, this is! There's such a blissful air to your words - possibly the most space-soaked poem I've read from you: ' .. In salt marsh Fields silvered.. Where we once Shared our first kiss.. .. Aye there.. Where a handful of Poppies provided A pillow and .. Wild garlic grew In disorganised rows .. ' There's focus on that past lay-lying, switched-on-n-off, nothing intruding. A togetherness that nothing but nothing harmed or even now, could. On the third reading, I sense a gift of memories set to the ready movement of Neville's happy heart!

Well captured familiar feeling of nostalgia tied to a place described in short, but beautiful words.
Often it is places, smells, even objects that bring about a flood of locked away memories. Golden they are, and aren't memories wonderful things in themselves as they allow us the gift of revisiting a time or moment past and reviving the emotions and feelings from it. A form of relative time travel..both a blessing and at times a curse.
This was masterfully done. I applaud you Neville.

you are indeed most kind my friend and I truly am grateful for your time and encouragement.... N
As good as a van Gogh only more lively. The sense of movement and palpability is etching its way all through the story here, Neville.

When I was very young, my sister and brother and I used to walk the hills of our apartment complex looking for grassy meadows to sit and have picnics in. Our picnics usually consisted of wild plants we found growing nearby, but they were no less sweet for being so small.

Your poem reminded me of those days. Carefree. Nothing intruding from the outside. Like a moment in a snow globe. It’s a beautiful little slice of time shared on the page.

Love the details in this. There’s a purity that is lovely. Feels like nothing could go wrong in that space.

There have been times when my toes were in sand more than they were in sandals. I love how you penned this, Nev... being at one with nature and poetry. This shows your diversity as a writer. I can feel that blustery breeze blowing from here!

Lavender is haunting me today Nev. Apparently it is now in bloom and the current trending trend to be pictured in a field of the stuff. I only know this because I am outnumbered by ladies at work and they kept showing me photos from snaptwat and twatter etc. It will come as no surprise that they call me gramps, or dad if they want something 😀
First kisses eh? Oh I remember it well... Well, I remember her laughing at me as I tried to swallow her face.

If only we could rewind more than our minds to less stressful times, where if you wanted to see something, you had to go to it. No apps, no uber, no cell phones. Bliss 😀
