I can’t explain exactly why but this poem took me back to my days with my eating disorder. Talking of deeper things, indeed our wants and desires have become quite superficial nowadays. Yet there are those who have nothing, and are living on a death wish. Not very conducive for this world to grow.

Your message grows in intensity as I reread it. I feel the chafing of having some self-righteous slob seemingly enforcing a "God takes care of everything" platitude instead of seeing desperation honestly and still having faith if there's anything left to feel (((NUGS))) Fondly, Margie

If there is a taste, then there is something. Your lines Neville make me think of my Mum who has no taste, no appetite, no hunger., no faith and a death wish and yet she lingers on. Where there is a taste, the there is hope I would say.

Most might see emptiness and despair. I see it differently. Taste isn’t much, but it’s hope, hope our appetite will return... and our insatiable hunger for life. From nothing to something immeasurable perhaps starts with a taste.

We do seem to lack the desire of our passions and convictions, we're content with a taste of a thing.
Once consumed we think ourselves an expert on the subject. We become novice of life. Let's wake up our appetite and dig in.
