Between Mountains

Between Mountains

A Poem by Neville

Between Mountains

What a ride that was

Never now to be forgot

Those awesome mountain

Passes beaten

Pale wood smoke rising

Hidden mountain croft

Where we might once have

Laid there naked

The forest now though

Stripped by hungry winter mouths

Makes way for bud and green

No remnant of a season past and still tho

As high we climb

Below obscured by rainbowed clouds

Yet still I remembered that would be

The perfect place to say goodbye

Could that goodbye carry with it a bit of regret? Even when the ride ends, we may long to go again. Or, if sober mindedness prevails, we return to earth. It's a lovely poem, full of great imagery.
My mind, soiled as it is, imagined "between two mountains" as being something quite different.

dear Neville.... between two mountains.... there is a valley
where weeping willows wait for someone to rest in the hollow
of heavenly bliss... by a stream of forgiving moments where
flowers grow with trumpets in dangled beauty evermore.
truly, Pat

..... smiling big from my mountain top my friend... :)
Memories of good times is an irreplacable gift methinks and these few lines give the reason why I state that - - the magic of once-trodden places oozes like dreams from your delectable wordings - - I liked the vision of remembered delight and when the mountain-ride passes a croft the poignant aside that twould have been better to say goodbye there midst the rainbowing clouds I felt the unwritten sigh. Another fine piece of poet's poetry Neville.

thank you my friend.. how very kind of you to take a peek.... tis much appreciated.. N
This almost perfectly describes a hike I took about 32 years ago, not far from where I now live. The guy proposed to me, but it was doomed. I've never been the marrying type. It was one of the most magical & awesome spring hikes with blankets of tiny yellow flowers carpeting the meadow we camped in. The cognac & apple cider by the fire was sublime. Too bad we always have to get to that stickery last line, which you've penned near perfectly (((NUGS))) Fondly, Margie

Full of wonderful imagery and romance. A nostalgia trip I think. Sounds like a special place, and mountains are awesome whether real or metaphorical. Goodbyes are never easy. Best in a place well loved, particularly at the end. That's where you took me Neville.

Chris

The wonderful thing about your words Neville is that on coming back to read them, the reader often gets a completely different perspective. This very early morning those mountain passes take on a whole new meaning. The imagery is still beautiful, but it is lovemaking and naked flesh I see in that mountain croft, rather than the scenic imagery outside. I ask how do you do that?
