Deciduous

Deciduous

A Poem by Neville
"

not just words, a play on words, not just than neither.. beleaf us why dont'cha

"

Deciduous

Are you not cold

Tis winter after all

Enquired veronica

The ever greenest shrub

Of the naked and still

Shivering tree

Yes I am very

Very cold indeed

And will be oh’ so much

Re-leaved when

Spring returns and

Smiles down on us

Me too replied the

Naked bush

Deciduous

Yes of course I love you

Both so very much

Sighed Veronica

Deciduous! a fine word indeed ... sprouts love in me ol heart ... but oh thank God above for the evergreens ... our forests would truly be way too naked without them ... my own little neck of the woods, just yesterday evening, showed me how very naked they are right now ... the joy is i can see well into the forest ... and so sneaking up on is much more difficult ... except for the armadillo ... ruddy little buggers rooting around in thick fallen leaves ... blind as bats but they have good sniffers ... anyway .. who is Veronica? ;)

I can only trust dear Neville, that your bark is worse than your bite and that naked bush apart, Veronica will do her best to keep you warm 'til Spring. :))

you are far too kind... but I like it.. cheers.. N
Perhaps you will beleaf me when I say I am a woman after veronica's heart. Of course in the winter I love the evergreens, but the skeletal deciduous offer something wonderful in the space they open up in the skies. I do love the word deciduous. I love the way children try to say it and come up with something much more charming.

Around here, the Veronica can sometimes still be found blooming (talking?) in the winter. I love that little speck of color in the sea of grey and green. I really, also, enjoyed your poem, Neville. The light touch that manages to sow a little wisdom along with it is always refreshing and I always enjoy that when I visit your page.

I grew up among the conifers. Deciduous trees are somewhat of a mystery to me.

Ah, Neville, you have created a study in botanical anthropomorphisation. . That is my "haughty cultural" opinion of this little gem.
A subtle observation on the powers of regeneration of nature. Were that humans were that accommodating .

Ha.. I think I probably agree entirely... maybe.. cheers sir Norm & muchly.... N :)
I love your title word & I've always been drawn to this concept. But I never thought to twist it around as you have, to possibly apply to many aspects of life, being cold & uncovered in a cyclical way . . . alternating between nakedness & modesty . . . so many delightful contrasts brought to my mind with this playful ditty. Here's hoping your 2019 will be starting off with a bang (we all wish to get banged, right?) Fondly, Margie

Strip off and see reality, Neville! See the flaws and failures, knots and wonder-notsl For then, sweet then, within weeks, the truth will emerge: dressed to kill they still look differentl Meantime, fine phrased indeed, this written deed of yours, love the skeletons that let you peep into their all around. Let yyour eyes climb their wherewithals then, realise they have far more than the not so shiny=bright evergreens. Perhaps.

A play on the word Deciduous? Your intriguing little poem of winter cold appears to involve three. What an imagination you have got Neville. I wonder what Veronica will do?
