I'm a New Year person as well Neville. As soon as I read "just like that", I had this wonderful image of Tommy Cooper, complete with his toothy grin and red fez. Mind you if that happened to me as a kid, I'd be finding it a bit difficult to see the funny side of it even though mum and dad were laughing. Poor plastic fairy. Entertaining read Neville.

yes of course.. is there really any other way.. such a long time.. do I add any vinegar, maybe..
I love this nonsensical celebration of non-celebratory holiday-time! Now I can use this excuse as the reason why I've never had a Christmas tree in my adult life. Gawd knows something explosive would surely happen & then I'd probably blame a furry friend for misplaced gnawing, etc. It's too complicated, so I'll keep it simple this time of year with just the tickle of a silly pickle (((NUGS))) Fondly, Margie

I used to love new year but ever since the rug rat arrived 18 years ago it's been Christmas day, boxing day that I've enjoyed more. Used to fetch her from her room on Christmas morning, taking her first outside to make sure Santa had eaten his Christmas pie and quaffed his beer and that the reindeer had scoffed their carrotts. Then used to watch as her little face light up opening presents.....miss that so much.
Anyway, enjoyed ya wee poem.
Hope your having a good Saturday.

My dad's (a WWII Marine, not given to humor) truck broke down. He split is pants trying to fix it. Then had to walk home on a hot day. So when he made it home we all gathered around the table to eat. The family filled their plates silently. All but Jeff, my brothers best friend who began quizzing Dad about his day. Being a full blooded Irishmen we held on to the table as we waited for the explosion.
Dad didn't answer, my mother trying to avert Jeff's topic kicked Jeff under the table. Jeff yelled ouch, Linda ya kicked me. So Bill how was your day.
Well my brother busted out in a full belly laugh.
My Dad coolly said you my be excused.
So Doug went to the bathroom and started laughing. I could not contain my laughter, and squeaked out my I be excused. Once I entered the bathroom where my brother was hiding we both broke out in uncontrollable laughter complete with tears.
To this day we laugh about that night.

dear Neville... I am always in a pickle... I had a beautiful seasonal snowy Musical Globe with a Reindeer inside. My daughters little Shitzu doggie jumped on the Table and knocked the Globe over... all the fluid inside the Globe spilled out and little Annie dog walked over the Fluid... I had to wash her Paws. We were Doggie sitting and my daughter was None the wiser. Tragedies happen during the Holidays.
fondly, Pat

Christmas is for kids. I'm not religious and don't need presents but I enjoy making it special for the kids in the family. Even though inside there's a shadow over my heart...

Well okay Neville, you got me to read a Chr*****s write with your tagline, and im glad I did. Your "just like that", reminded me of Tommy Cooper, which reminded me of my dad laughing himself into a coughing fit at him, and how he would tell me, when he saw my puzzled look "you think its easy to play piano that bad? I never figured out what he meant until after he died, but it did make me a fan.
And I also prefer new year. Come to think of it, I like root canal work more than xmas. :)
