If you love someone, set them free! No one can change the character of another person. If you really love someone, you have to allow them to be themselves. I enjoyed the rhyming in this one, Neville...oh, and in case you don't have a calendar handy, it is Friday...hint, hint! :) Lydi**

Can't chain a love in. They will escape one day. Nice use of words and thoughts my friend. Love need to be free and wild. Thank you Neville for sharing the amazing poetry.

you are never wrong my friend, not when wise words are needed and that's for sure... cheers John...
You are certainly the romantic, Neville. Yes, all life forms respond to light, but those from the opposite gender are satisfied with a smile that lights up their lives.
A great poem that places an emphasis, wealth aside, on the bird in the gilded cage. :-)

I don't know whether these words are personal so I can only comment in a general way. Love can be too possessive and if one side is smothering the other's individuality and creativity it is unhealthy. In your poem one of the pair has recognised the others containment and realises he/she needs to be released. This act is a sign of a selfless love which is surely unusual.
Relationships are so tricky and logic is often out the window!
Very thought provoking Neville.
Hope all's well.

A freedom lover knows the joys of freedom and knows what can imprisonment of any sort means to a soul.
These are words of a wonderful heart that cherishes gentle beauty and love in his surroundings.
You have penned extraordinary sentiments, dear Neville.

You are a hero ( with hangover) for many, who adore you!
Damn, Lydi used my line :)
So easy to say, not so easy to do, or forget. Turning your mind into a multi dimensional mindfuck of what was and never shall be again.
I am mow thinking of deluded groupies, who think that song was written about them, despite them being non existant to the singer....because I am now thinking that this is so accurate, that it must be about me :)
The pain lessonsy friend, after the first few years.
Beautifully worded and constructed piece we can all relate to. Because its about all of us.
(Sternly) Neville, do you have a mermaid chained up in your bathtub, or caged in your cellar? The truth, now!
That is just wrong, no matter how charmingly you write of it!
Thanks for the offer to fly away Nev. but I think I'll stay right here...musing after the ole' man across the Sea :) I've grown attached ya know! Loving words btw...you are a softy...i dont care what you say.
