Cooling Down

Cooling Down

A Poem by Neville
"

Remembering November 2005....but only too vividly

"

Cooling Down

I could of course

Be bitter

Even angry

At a push

But for now I

Will let you

Decide

What emotion

You would

Prefer

Me to wear

Tonight

After all I am on

Display here and

Although in

Denial

And still clearly

Projecting

Blame

In my direction

I imagine

You may have

Already

Forgotten my

Name

Perhaps in

Favour

Of some psycho or

Pseudo lover

Maybe a poet even

Of one kind or

Another

I am not bitter tho

Oh no

Not at all

He laughs

On the contrary

I consider

Myself

Very lucky

Okay

I might well be

Going blind and

Senile

Waiting on the

Result

Of several

Biopsies

But I am free

You understand

And sooner or

Later

When I am

Gone and

I do so mean

Gone

I suspect

Enlightenment

Will eventually

Find you

Then you will

No doubt

Realise

That I was right

And you my

Dear

Were superbly

Wrong

Do take notes

Though

They might just

Help you later on

Surprising as it

Might now

Seem

The world

Does not

Revolve

Around you or

Your alter ego

Not everything

Is perfect

Far from it

Take my word

There is evil

In this world

Hunger too

Of course

Plus a fair

Amount

Pain and

Suffering

Even monsters

Yeah even them

So step out from

Your comfort

Zone

And take

A damn good

Look around

You won’t be hot

Forever Babe

In fact you are

Already

Cooling down….

I think the word therapeutic comes to mind for this one Neville, but what a brilliant last line, taking us back to the title. I was wondering if it, the title, would make an appearance, but it was still a surprise how you done it.
Now, perhaps I need some primal screaming therapy in my next write |:)

dear Neville... there is so much truth in your wisdom. Cooling down is a brilliant way to describe aging. So kind of you to pen a letter to her memory and even leave good omens in a locket. Yes, I have had a few biopsies... some positive, but chemo and radiation sometimes bring remission... not to mention... Miracles.
Aging is a gift when you consider the alternative. May your days be blessed with bird song and the hope of Spring. truly, Pat

I hope this is just for art's sake and not accurate concerning your real life, my dear friend. It bothers me to think that anyone would break your dear and gentle heart. Shame upon anyone who would.
If you have no real love, may you find it soon. The lucky woman will be getting a real winning jackpot!
You, my friend, are one of the great ones.

Some people only have love enough for one. Which is themselves.
I say it's time to build a new bridge (toll free of course) and let tomorrow happen.

P S this is one powerful rebuke and sounds well earned.

Oh dear Neville - this must be all too familiar to many. Moving on is the best plan in the long run but it is hard to erase the memories. You've done this in a very conversational way which connects with us very easily. I have done a few things in free verse here (usually when I'm high!) and taken a bit of stick but if it works run with it. Some folk are just too tight ar*****! There are a couple of things to think about - where and if to use capitals and then where to break to the next line. I think the main considerations are, to preserve the sense and maintain a flow that is pleasing to the ear.
Nice work Neville!

This is the kind of exquisite rant I used to enjoy in my younger days, before I learned that such wanton releases often come back to haunt! *wink! wink!* You have truly surpassed me in every regard, however, as far as spewing the most incendiary venom here! I hereby vow never to make you mad (((NUGS))) Fondly, Margie

Good morning Neville. I hope you are feeling better now you've got this off your chest. Could be taken for a matrimonial, I've had a few of those. 2005 didn't look that good. Sending you very warm wishes after reading your Cooling Down poem.
