Read Yourself

Read Yourself

A Poem by Neville

Read Yourself

Come read

Yourself

Into these words

My love

They are my words

But

They are meant

For you

You see

I need

To find and to

Feel you here

Each time

I dare to open

This

Singular page

A wonderful thing about poetry is that it can hold the spirit of many things. I used to write two or three poems in a day, and I wish I could still do that because there are a lot of little things I am reminded of when I go back and read those poems.

No matter what we think, we can’t hold on to everything and everyone, and as time goes my memories just keep more easily slipping away. I understand this one in a few ways. But love the romantic gesture of not only holding the beloved in a portrait of words, but also inviting the person to participate and see just what they mean to you. It’s a lovely poem, Neville. I saw Mrudula’s review and felt a little sad she’s no longer here. But it’s great to read this today.

Neville, I think this speaks to what many poets desire. We write partly for ourselves but we think of others, and we often leave secret messages between the verses and stanzas. Sometimes it takes just one word or phrase for that special reader to know it was written for them. Of course, the other readers, one or a million, may find themselves, too, and that makes extraordinary poetry. Another quality poem of brevity and substance, sir.

What a lovely invitation Neville. This will fill the hearts of those who read you. Saw I gave my penny worth last year, but have come back to add some more value. Happy, restful Tuesday.

It can get lonely on these pages without the right company. We write as much to appreciate as to be appreciated. This give and take keeps us going. Loved this!

Most welcome my friend 🤗
Your poem is the very crux of my belief that we should not try to over explain our intent in our authors notes, but to leave interpretation open. I often do not see half of what is in a poem that I've written, until readers show me all the stuff I didn't notice before! Thanks for putting this so eloquently (((LET IT BE))) Fondly, Margie

how bloomin smashing is that... he loves the sound of a new chapter... and laughter of course..
And we write on what we're too shy to voice in real.
I read somewhere 'if you want to be remembered forever then fall in love with a poet'. I guess that's true...
Nice write, N.
