The Plagiarist

The Plagiarist

A Poem by Neville
"

yep.. that old chestnut

"

The Plagiarist

Who would take the words ideas and images

From another

Then shuffle them around the canvass or the page

Then slightly

Rearrange each idea and concept for their own ill-gotten

Personal gains

I think without any doubt we all know such a felon and so I ask

Should we

Would we

Could we

Pity them or have them hang in chains

?

unintentionally there are times we can be plagiarists but once or twice but not often give credit to that someone who had made a mark recognize and respect what he did or wrote.

good words sette.. I might just jot them down and use them myself.....
Whitman made us all plagiarist my friend...the same way that Plath and Ginsberg gave birth to a thousand
Plath's and a trillion Ginsberg's/. Audrey Payton, who in grade school I sharpened her pencils out of pure love, had mastered the Palmer method of cursive, with me, illegible, pitiful and heartbroken.
Since I was her slave, my coppycating was, in fact, my expression of devotion. If poetry means anything my friend, it's that identify (style if you will) is an exactitude too painful to carry with us each hour of the day. So the protagonist, rips off snippets of the power, then suddenly a method is introduced. Plath sounds like Lowell, Sexton sounds like Plath, HD finally breaks free of them both with lament and, like me in grade school, heartsickness...Like Angel said, "I don't worry about it, it's not like anyone would be copying my amateur scribbling"..lol

great poem....dana

There are so many ways to cheat life & those who do are to be pitied. But I won't cry if God punishes them too *wink! wink!* There are too many ways to keep score, so I'll let the Grand Scorekeeper dole out any needed lessons. I'm so delusional, I feel like a winner no matter what the scoreboard says! (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

You are a winner.. ta ever so much Margie.... N
To be pitied perhaps in their attempts to be creative. At the risk of sounding superior its something I cannot understand. But then people copy songs and paintings. In those cases I find I always prefer the original.
With plagarism its the person who is important in their eyes, not the art.

You never know.. Many thanks for visiting mine anyway.... All Good Things to You... Neville
I'm afraid that even if I was under plagiarism, I won't know, and it's better to know than to be a blinded fool! Your question is to the point but I don't have the whole answer to it, maybe to take a little bit from both suggestions?

I'm happy that till now Neville Pettitt have never been under plagiarism, and may he never be!

The poem hides it's intent, hidden in language and encourages
the pack to attack an individual, but not to identify, each line
includes a paradox. Great poem.

I've seen them. They look for abandoned accounts and rip the words from the page. They would often-times take pieces from numerous poems and stick them together. Other times, they'd just post the poems as is.

Strange.

Thanks for the tip.... I mean the tip off.... and the visit.... Neville
Happens in music too but I suppose the positive out of being copied is your work was appreciated. Plagiarism is all around us as we conform to society in same actions and same views, all living the same ideals no wonder we all have similar thoughts and hence ideas to build on. I look at managers whom are given an idea and they run with it like it was there own!

You are welcome, I knew where you were coming from, I just took a different slant.
Who wrote the first "Tree poem." Donne did. Few words have not been written. Last year I read a 2500 page books from the 1500-1700 ancient writers. They wrote about all things. I would dislike if someone stole my work, but I like the Bob Dylan quote. Steal my work. Write it better please. Always a pleasure to read your words and thoughts my friend.
