Old Sunlight

Old Sunlight

A Poem by Neville

Old Sunlight

Time it did

For sure

Stand still there

Mirrors cracked

Dead flowers on the

Window sill there

Old sunlight

Straining through

Torn nets there

A single dust mote

Pirouettes

Then dies there

The same old photos

With yellow

And frayed edges

Save long forgotten

Smiles and blushes

A champagne flute

With broken stem there

Empty jam jars

Drowned paint brushes

In the grate

Cold long dead ashes

Do we really want

To go back there

A simple question

Begging answers

Old sunlight on still

Mantle-clock there

Falters

Yes time it does

For sure

Stand still there

Moments locked away

Not yet forgot there

Grateful to old sunlight

I don't know why I'm so attached to ancient times, like I was born in a wrong time?! well maybe I was there in some time, though You are speaking of memories, but Your words brought that inside my mind too. I also believe that the old times, the old sunlight of Yours is much much better than nowadays.

The sun warms us and brings light, but the body and our artifacts, in sustained heat and rays, suffer with age. It's our nature and reality, seen up close or mirrored reflections from the past. I find beauty in the old, and sometimes lessons that brighten the day. A poem that makes the mind wonder and the heart reflect. Nice work, Neville.

thank you most kindly my friend....
This is great! What a superbly detailed slice of life! I can feel an inner tug-of-war between longing for the past & wanting to move on. This is so poignant, reminding me of all the different ways that widowed women friends of mine (growing more plentiful every year) croon their grief. You have your finger on the heartbeat of the nostalgic types (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

Memories can be wonderful, but also hurtful at the same time.

I sense there is a glow in that darkness and it feels good
I was completely swept away in the subtle imagery of this fantastic poem.

sometimes we do tend to forget lots of things but they keep coming back for one reason or multiple reasons but what is important is that in one way or another you have remembered

All those memories we harvest over a life time. We can not help but go there. Such detail here, torn nets, dust motes, old photos with yellow and frayed edges. They are part of our tapestry. We can not forget them. They live inside us. Lovely lines Neville.

Another truth.. thank you Chris :)
i think this is one of your best Neville! wonderful use of the metaphor ..i love the repetition of "there" ..the way you place it brings deep meaning to such a simple and well used word ..even in the old sunlight..it comes alive ..with all those memories of loves lost, opportunities come and gone, hundreds ..thousands of regrets we revisit to little avail ... your closing is brilliant says i ...at least it is light ... even tho old .. Old Sunlight ..just brilliant says i!
