Morning Coffee

Morning Coffee

A Poem by Neville

Morning Coffee

He takes his early morning coffee

Strong and black

Seated on the balconet or decking

Sun bleached and worn smooth by

Countless pairs of feet but then

Who’s counting….

The scent of warm croissant and

Something musky rises steady

From the open kitchen door

Below and for once the wind chimes

Hang silent

Only bees are busy here it seems

This morn….

Better wrap it up my buttercup

He smiles and thinks beyond himself

One day I shall count those

Daisies on the lawn

Be sure not to forget me

Not yet

He takes his early morning coffee

Strong and black

But drinks it on his own….

I tried (counting them) but once past a dozen, I stumbled at about three teen and started up the mower, now there's none and none is so much easier to count, don't you think?
Am left wondering if the she here was in next room, continent or galaxy, but either way, you both checked out long ago and wonder if she wonders enough to write about you too.
Thought filled words here my friend, despite the silly o'clocknes of the hour (Monday: 1:50 am)

Time moves on and how often we think of another and wonder if they ever think of how we were - black coffee calls when mem'ries are all we own.......... another page I guess from your folder of fancy Nev. but oh how very appealing.

Reminiscences lingers over black coffee served alone on a quiet morning. A moment when the mind drifts and thinks about those memories.

The imagery of the worm deck and daisies is a beautiful and seems like a peaceful place to remember and wish for something more than coffee alone

Hmmm. There's a bit of loneliness here, it seems. Though some sweetness exists, the silent chimes, decking empty of passersby, and flower reference makes me think the narrator isn't having his best day. This is wonderful writing that speaks to me in familiar ways. (I was the loneliest guy on the planet for a period of time)

I was read-requested by Juliespenhere & I don’t know how I missed a poem about two of my favorite passions – coffee & you (in that order *wink! wink!*) I love the conversational tone & the details you pick out to paint this scene, which I also have my own version of, here on my deck overlooking the wilderness. I love the way your poem hints at someone who’s missing from this morning scene, which is also a feeling that haunts my mornings. My coffee forays are sparkling times when I wish I could find some new way to show how multi-colored it can feel . . . but you do this all the time . . . and this one is a favorite (((NUGS))) Fondly, Margie
