To talk

Nonsense instead

Of course

It is crucial

Its the nonsense part that gives us away...you got that right. People lie for so many reasons, I think each must be weighed of its own and given credence or not. On the surface this is quite cleverly nonsense as you describe, but brush off the frost and the is cold hard icy truth and you have no choice bot lick it and see if your tongue sticks. As always...great writing.
