As a kid I would love it when my mom would sing to me the old Vaudeville song "Me and my shadow" til I fell asleep (coz I followed her everywhere lol)

This recalled those days *sigh*

A shadow really only exists only as a phenomenon; which of course is the same as love, neither having physical form.

The analogy of the shadow is done beautifully. I like the subtle rhyming. Love tends to get complicated, however much one wishes otherwise. How we wish to melt away yet be part of a loved one's life. "Shadow Envy" Such poetic flair!
